Shepherd's pie, cottage pie, or hachis parmentier is a dish of cooked minced meat topped with mashed potato. In a heavy based pan heat the olive oil. In a large, ovenproof skillet over medium heat, heat oil.

Available baked or frozen in chicken, beef, lamb and vegetarian.


Originally, shepherd’s pie was made from chunks of meat, probably leftover from a roast, as mincing machines weren’t invented until the 1870s. Using a slotted spoon, lift the lamb out of the pan and spoon off the excess fat. Shepherd's pie, cottage pie, or hachis parmentier is a dish of cooked minced meat topped with mashed potato.

Preheat the oven to 220c/425f/gas 7. Spoon meat and vegetable sauce into greased baking dish. Add herbs, tomatoes, vegetables, beef stock and tomato paste.
